Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and are working on a great New Year! Sadly though, bad things are brewing on the horizon for the world, but I will not expand on that issue, as this is not a place for such opinions. But suffice it say this has affected a few of our writers as some have already been called to leave their homes & families and others are anxiously waiting. Please join with me to wish them well and that they may return soon and safely to their homes & families and will be with us once again.

On the Homefront

Well group I am pleased to announce we have a star among us! Jason Carnahan our Telnor Admin in DL got himself published, which is absolutely awesome! He entered and won a poetry contest with his poem "Sapphire Moon". Everyone give him a big hand and a *Way to go Jason* If you want to drop him a line of congratulations you can catch him at kazekyrstal@yahoo.com Of course don't be surprised if he tries to recruit you for his Warren. *grin*

Weaver Con 7

Now is the time to be planning WeaverCon 7 for this coming summer. If anyone is interested in helping plan or hosting please sign up at the WeaverCon Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WeaverCon

Birthdays! Birthdays! And more Birthdays!

We did have a few birthdays over the last few months. Actually I know there's a lot more of you out there, but very few are owning up to it. So everybody grab a huge glass for a big birthday toast for......

Joey Watkins 2/8

Tracee Taylor-Schneider 2/12

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And may you ladies have many many more!

Since I know if I don't say anything I will get ragged bad over this. The case in point is that contrary to popular belief 'yours truly' did not recently have a birthday (at least one she'll admit too) which would technically probably make her the oldest living fossil in WW. She absolutely does not have birthdays anymore and in fact has decided to recede backwards instead, and is in fact fast approaching infancy and those that know her well, I'm sure will wholeheartedly agree.

If you wish to fess up and share with your fellow writers your special day please drop me a line at treedr@ywave.com I promise to torture you only once a year! Well....maybe a few other times too, but I absolutely promise no age jokes.

Cool Links

***Amazingly, I do actually leave ebay once in awhile and go snooping around the web. At times I run across different writing and shopping sites that catch my eye so I do try to pass them on for your perusal. I know little or nothing about many of them so if any have tried any of these sites and know something about them please share with us as to how you would rate them.

Glimmer Train Press, Inc is a newsletter for writers, they appear to accept publications year around and have different categories. After a brief peek it looks like it might be something to check out. http://www.glimmertrain.com/index.html

Writers Online is an online newsletter type and appears to have some positive stuff to check out. I'm a little late for the most recent contest but there is an online university and they are looking for some help. Might be worth checking out. http://www.writeronline.us/contests/index.htm

Poetry.com is obviously for the poet in all of is. It is a large site and does have monthly winners and best of all it appears to be free submissions http://www.poetry.com/

Tickles, Giggles and just plain Nose Pluggers!

Following is a joke that was submitted to me, not sure if the sender wishes to take any credit so I will leave it anonymous for now. I think it is rather cute myself in a wrinkle-the-nose sort of way, and thought I would share it with you.

**A hungry lion was roaming through the jungle looking for something to eat. He came across two men. One was sitting under a tree and reading a book; the other was typing away on his typewriter. The lion quickly pounced on the man reading the book and devoured him. Even the king of the jungle knows that readers digest and writers cramp.***

Yeah, yeah I know I'm easily amused, what can I say! I also ran across this cutie from one of my lists that I'm on and got permission to share it with you. The author is unknown. But believe it or not (for those of you in the snowy north) summer is fast approaching and I thought the following really fit the bill. *very evil laugh*

***As I lay on my bed, thinking about you, I feel this strong urge to grab you and squeeze you, because I can't forget last night. You came to me unexpectedly during the balmy and calm night, and what happened in my bed still leaves a tingling sensation in me.

You appeared from nowhere and shamelessly, without any reservations, you laid on my naked body...you sensed my indifference, so you applied your hungry mouth to me without any guilt or humiliation, and you drove me near crazy while you drained me. Finally I went to sleep.

Today when I woke up, you were gone, I searched for you but to no avail, only the sheets bore witness to last night's events. My body still bears faint marks of your enthusiastic ravishings, making it harder to forget you.

Tonight I will remain awake waiting for you...

.......you $@%*# mosquito.

NEWSBREAKS FROM THE WORLDS

StarFleet

The Admiralty has had lots to contend with from a missing ship, to a starbase quarantine, and plenty of conspiracies. The Oberon is still missing in action if anyone sees it please contact the Admiral ASAP. The Capricorn and the Calypso (or what's left of her which is going to the shipyard shortly) are still stuck at DS 3. The riots have been squelched and an antidote has been found for the virus plaguing the station. The Falcon is on a priority mission to Denab IV, and the last report was that the away teams are out of contact. The Javelin has sadly gone to the shipyards for dismantling and I hear tell there is a insane person that mutinied somewhat and is bringing the new Caly-B to DS-3 to retrieve the remaining Calypso crew and whisk them off to parts unknown. We also have some new fleet players and would really like to welcome them aboard!

Any comments or questions please contact the Admiral of Personnel at biancaknox@yahoo.com

DragonLands

Assassination attempts and a visit from the Empress Vignette in Jasra, talk of new babies in White River, murder and crazed nomads in Cleft, then a training accident hurting dragons and riders alike in Telnor. Betrayal and death at Keldarra and a lost civilization found and still lots of snow in Norwall, are just a few happenings going on in DL. Things have been moving right alone and several newbies have joined us with their scaly cohorts so please welcome them to the group!

Any comments or questions please contact Arlene Jacobs at dlands@hotmail.com

WoD Worlds

The WoD worlds have gotten it together and are now up and running. Any comments or questions please contact Chris Ackney at martin_tremere@yahoo.co.uk

***WW-Vampire

Vampire has started out nicely and is doing well. New Orleans is alive with activity and despite their hostility and suspicion of each other the clans have come together to find a lost childe. Dawn is only a few hours away will they make it in time?

***WW-Changeling

Changeling has gotten its specs together and the first few posts are out. The group shows a lot of promise so anyone wanting to jump on the bandwagon while it's still brand new give Chris A. a holler.

Luchsen

Despite the apparent betrayal by one of their own, the group has continued on to a village near the Wycliffe estate to practice their roles as a troupe of performers in preparation for their upcoming mission. Even as they prepare, their pasts are catching up to them, and internal turmoil may yet tear the band apart.

Any comments or questions please contact Chris Weeda at weeda@ix.netcom.com

InNomine and Nobilis

I am greatly saddened to announce the closure of IN-DC. Cam and Amanda gave it their best, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Also Nobilis has come to a stand still and last word was that Jonathan might close the doors there also. Any comments or questions please contact Jonathan Walton at jonathan.walton@oberlin.edu

***IN-SF

There still appears to be a little spark left in IN-SF. Not sure of the storyline though at the present. My understanding is that Chris Holland is admin there so any questions or comments please direct to him at ursa_ravenwolf@hotmail.com

* And...... on to the thing I know you all look forward to the most *grin* and that's Tree's quote of the day. So without further ado......

One must always remember that whatever hits the fan will not be evenly distributed. - Unknown

Now on to the more serious stuff like *gasp* the awards. The World Admins have agreed on some changes. A lot of this has come from just listening taking stock of the comments I've received throughout the year from you all. I do hope you like the changes.

Awards - 2002

Following is just a sample of the Nomination Categories for this year. Do not use this template or reply to it as this is only for you all to gander at that way you can start thinking on your nominations. Once all the rosters are in which should be shortly, the real thing will be sent to you each individually per your unit. It will be sent directly from the awards site with instructions per this year. Now when you get the email with a much plainer version of what you see below all you will have to do is click reply, fill it out per your selections, and hit send and it will go right back to the awards site for sorting. This means no hassles with copying and pasting this year.)

For each post you wish to nominate (and remember you can nominate more than one per category and don't forget you can also nominate your own work) if possible keep your nominations simple as it makes it easier on us to create the voting ballots for you.

All you need to do for each category for your nominations is just use one line containing post name/date/author/unit.

Once again this year we will try to link as many posts as possible to WeaversFiction for your convenience so we do need as much of the above information as you can to enable us to find the posts to link too. If by chance you know the link in WF and want to include it that's wonderful, though not necessary, but it would definitely be greatly appreciated.

***Now after several comments from the 'writers' over the exclusion of the admins in their own units last year, it has been agreed that the admins can be nominated in their own units. BUT they cannot nominate themselves for any awards, within their own unit, only their writers can do that. Now it was stated more then once to me that "good writing should be honored regardless", and this honest to goodness actually came from the writers and not the admins. To keep this so there is no question as to fairness in anyone's mind. The Director and the Assistant Director will not deal with the ballots within any unit they may personally admin.***

I have already asked that a copy of this *fancy dancy* template be uploaded to your individual yahoogroup file sections for the lurkers that may wish to nominate/vote. There will also be one added to the file section of WeaversFiction for those lurkers that are not on any individual group. If for some reason you find yourself in need of a new template please feel free to copy it out and use it. If this is the case though you will need to make sure you send it to. awards@worldweavers.org

World Weavers 2003 Award Nomination

** Special Writing Awards **

*****

** Post Awards **

(These Awards are voted on by ALL players within their unit during the final voting.)

1) Most Dramatic Moving Post (This award is given to the writer of the post that evoked the most emotion. A moving post would be one that touched your heart in some way.)

2) Most Dramatic Action Post This award is given to the writer of the post that exhibits the best action that goes beyond the normal. (Examples: a dynamic chase scene, two officers jumped from behind and a struggle ensues, an invasion from above dragons or a group of mages, etc.) Regardless of the plot/action this type of post can create excitement, tension and in some cases even humor.)

3) Best Overall Plot Post (This award is given to the writer of the post which most influences the entire direction of a plot, without ignoring what has gone before. (Example: vessel’s captain kills self to save the good of others, erratic behavior in dragon rider due to various reasons, secret agent’s shady boss is a double agent, etc.)

4) Best Humor (This category pretty much speaks for itself. If a post tickles your funny bone then it's a candidate)

5) Best Love Scene (The type of post for this award can either be romantic or erotic and can fall under any rating from G to X. It is for well-written romance/passion of a higher quality that leaves the unspoken to the reader's imagination.)

** Player Awards **

For outstanding effort by any player, not necessarily restricted to one unit. Submissions will be accepted from ALL players.

  1. Master Weaver (lifetime award) (This award is given for weaving beautiful, engaging stories and exhibiting the best qualities of both a player and a mentor. To be eligible a person must be an active member of World Weavers for 4 (four) consecutive years from their date of joining World Weavers. Previous recipients are not eligible for this award. For those writers that have already received their Master Weaver under this time period they may start fresh if they so choose, but their award will not be rescinded. Only 3 (three) Master Weaver's will be chosen per year from all of World Weavers.) This category is voted on by Admins only.

2) Butterfly (lifetime award)

This award is given to a player who has developed into a beautiful writer and inspirational player while writing in World Weavers. Nominations for this award should state the characters and the units involved and as to why you feel this writer should receive this award. To be eligible a person must be a viable writing member of World Weavers for 2 (two) consecutive years. Nominations will be forwarded to the World Admin for final selection. Previous recipients not eligible.

3) Rookie of the Year (lifetime award)

This Award is for the first year writer, must work with admin to raise level/quality of writing, and must post on a regular basis. Nominations will be forwarded to the World Admin for final selection.

4) Significant Creation

This award is for the writer who introduces something new, whether character, subplot, place, or object, which dramatically affects future play. (This would be a creation above and beyond the normal and something that is more for long term play instead of a one-time thing) Nominations will be forwarded to the World Admin for final selection. Submission should contain if possible the name, date, unit and reason why it should be considered)

5) Honorable Mention

This award is for the writer of the post that has combined one or many facets of past and present award categories all rolled into one, yet it doesn't quite fit in any distinct area. (Example: This could be a post exhibiting any or all of the following: *significant character development, a great save or just simply getting around.) Nominations will be forwarded to the World Admin for final selection. Submission should contain if possible the name, date, unit and reason why it should be considered)

6) Special Thanks

This category is to honor writers and administrators that have made a significant contribution to their individual units/worlds for a variety of reasons. Such reasons include, but are not limited to: going beyond the call of duty, being a great inspiration/mentor to others, etc Submissions should contain the name, unit and reason for submission.

Just one more thing!

I've been trying to be very diligent about keeping up with our Announce list so know one is excluded. If anyone knows of a writer that doesn't receive the Newsletter please contact me as soon as possible so I can get them added. Thanks - Tree
