GUESS WHAT? I'mmm Backkk! Thought y'all got rid of me didn't ya! *grin* All my wonderfully obvious hints at someone beating down my door for this job have gone unanswered. Well, I figured it was about time to torment the masses again, so here I am!

Anyway, it's been a few months and of course I have all sorts of news! For one I am going to be a Gramma again and trust me Auntie Barb is just as excited as this old lady. Lord, the way my girls are going I'm gonna have enough future writers to stock my own unit. Then, my youngest boy discovered he has some real smarts after all, of course I'd just be happy if he'd clean his room. Well, actually just under the bed would make me extremely happy. I swear there is something livin' under there because it tried to grab me the other day when I foolishly dared to venture into 'The Over Thirty Forbidden Zone'. I'm telling you I barely made it out alive. I'm thinking it might be one of Edwards Shadow creatures from over in DL or something like that because it had a nasty growl and ........ Oh wait, that's right you want to hear about Weavers stuff. Well, okayyyy if I must! :D

Anyway on with the other news.....

WEAVERCON

Unfortunately we couldn't get it together in time and there was no WeaverCon 7 last summer. Truly this is a very sad thing indeed! My one time going was absolutely the greatest! I got to see a part of the US that I've never seen. I even got to go to my first Renaissance Faire but most importantly I got to meet some of my fellow writers which was the highlight of the trip. Of course the fact that I got to go all by myself and act like a big person was pretty cool too!

I've heard it said that when writing interactively like we do, we have a tendency to form images of the actual people through our characters, and that meeting them ruins the image we have for the writing. Personally, at least for me I have found that this is just not true. The others and I that have met in RL have discovered that it only makes it all the more fun. So I do highly recommend attending at least one if you can.

For those that aren't sure how it works the way it's been done in the past is that one of the writers volunteers to be the host. (and we do keep it within the lower 48 states.)

Now the host does the initial legwork finding out the local prices, menus, optional touristy stuff and so on, then makes all the reservations and such if needed. Arrangements for funding is decided then broken down per person and then made prior to, or on arrival. It can get pretty expensive one person having to do this all up front so the idea is not strapping them financially before we even get started. The Con's have been in various places in the past from campgrounds to someone's house, so the price varies.

What has also been done in the past is that we try each year for a different part of the US (east, west and the middle) so everyone has the opportunity to come. There has also been the suggestion of having it in the place each year, like maybe a popular spot such as Las Vegas or Reno. Red eye flights can be a lot cheaper to these kind of places as such. This possibly might be better for people as it is a more vacation like atmosphere. The idea though of having a Weavers member host it is so we can show off our little corner of the world which is a lot of fun.

Unless you all speak up, those that are in on the planning won't know how you feel and to be in on the planning all you need do is join the WeaverCon discussion group. We need as much input as possible that way it is fun for everyone. So do come join us to plan for next years Weaver Con.

WEAVER NEWS:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Bernadette is back home from her Middle East assignment. I haven't talked to her so unsure of her status as of yet, but I do know her unit definitely misses her a lot. Welcome home Lady!

Rob Bergeron, my satellite buddy and fellow Weaver has recently retired from the US Navy after twenty some years with Uncle Sam. I call him my satellite buddy jokingly, but he is proof that Weavers can go just about anywhere even aboard a ship in the middle of the ocean. Being a retired military spouse myself I know what a big step this is for him. Rob, from all of us Weavers we wish you the best of luck in whatever new venture you chose to undertake.

Also, it's been a whole year since DL's mentor and creator Susan Rati took the marital plunge. She and Terran Lane said their I do's last October 12 and Susan reports they are still going strong. Best wishes to both of you from all of us at Weavers.

Roster! Rosters! And more Rosters: A few of us are in the process of getting the unit rosters updated. Make sure your unit admin has your most current addys, usually two is sufficient. Your regular addy and an alternate online backup is best.

Also I am updating this list or the WW-Announce as we call it here. This list is used for special announcements and the Newsletter and I do also upload the newsletter through WeaversFiction so our lurkers get to know what we are up too! You can access it there at anytime.

The WW-Announce uses only the email address (no names) and there are many that I don't recognize and am not sure if they are still active. Please I really do need to hear from you to know if these addy's are still current and you still wish to get the newsletters. If I don't get a response within a certain period of time and can't find anyone who recognizes it I will assume it's an old address and delete it from the list. Drop me a line at treedr@ywave.com and let me know as soon as possible as I would hate to delete somebody that still wants to be here.

WW Mailman List Address's: I'm sure by now that many of you know that we are having problems with our unit mailing list. This is not due to anything wrong with the list. I have been in contact with Drew and our posts are going as normal and not bouncing. So the problem lies at the Yahoo end(why am I not surprised). Several of our writers have commented recently that they are randomly missing posts. You will need to check your individual yahoo group pages to make sure you haven't missed anything.

I was told that Yahoo is putting new spam filters in place and for some reason they have decided for some foolish reason that our Mailman stuff is spam I guess and needs to be filtered out. I do have a message into them and we're hoping this will bust loose soon or someone will get a clue up there in Yahooland that we aren't spam. (gee, we've only been using the list for how long now?) Also Drew informed me that Yahoo is having some issue with hotmail addys so if you are among those that use hotmail you might want to keep a closer eye on your individual group page.

Anyway the suggestion is that you still send your posts through the Mailman but also at the same time cc it to your individual unit groups and WeaversFiction BUT, you will have to remember to use the [unit brackets] in the post title.(Yes Yes I know we are reverting to the age of the dinosaur :D) This is definitely a must as the unit header identifies it so people do not delete the posts thinking they are spam. With so much spam these days it's easy to accidentally delete one without realizing it. By sending to all just keep watch and if suddenly you start getting doubles that is hopefully a sign that Yahoo has finally gotten it together. Any questions feel free to give me a holler.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

For upcoming Sci-Fi and Trek Conventions for the next few months check Creation Entertainment or Vulkon as there are several conventions all over the US including London starting in November. Well actually they have been going on all along but......:)

http://www.creationent.com/

http://www.vulkon.com/

I've usually attended the Creation Ent Conventions whch are good but Vulkon has Seatrek cruises, which look way too cool! Of course a bit above my budget but..... stuck for a week on a ship with my favorite Sci-fi characters and probably a lot of good looking guys. Yeah, I could dig it!

WRITERS INFO:

Remember > NOVEMBER is National Novel Writing Month and for those of you who have ever thought about taking the plunge and write that first novel you might want to check out this site. It looks like it could be a lot of crazed hair pulling fun. http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I do believe some of our writers took the plunge last year but haven't heard how it turned out. But thumbs up to anyone that has the gumption to go for it!

COOL LINKS:

Astronomy Picture of the Day

For all you stargazers this is a totally cool link. A sweet guy from another list turned me on to this and it's well worth bookmarking and visiting every day or as often as you can. There has been some awesome and informative stuff here. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/

Pumpkin Time

Another nice gentleman shared this and for those that celebrate All Hallows Eve the following link should tickle your fancy. http://www.extremepumpkins.com/

SHOPPING LINKS:

As most know *Dancing Dragon* www.dancingdragon.com is one of Trees most favoritist places to snoop and drool. Hubby runs and hides his wallet when this catalog comes in the mail. Of course I keep leaving it in all sorts of obvious spots all over the house with big check marks on just about every page. Who knows one of these days I just might get lucky and find that really cool dragon table sitting in my living room. *big grin*

Guys don't forget *Blue Cat Moon - artisan jewelry by design* http://www.bluecatmoon.com/ has some awesome jewelry and Celia has mentioned she will make to order, so if you have a design in mind for that special someone just let her know. This site comes highly recommended.

*The Wormhole* http://www.startrek-wormhole.com/Star_Trek_Shopping/ is a great central site with lots of links to various online trek shopping.

Lest we not forget and humbly bow down to the one true shopping phenomena *Ebay*. As one Weaver stated to me "Ebay is the Devil and I am its bitc...." ooooh never mind.......I'm pretty sure you got the idea! (as Tree keeps rabidly checking her mailbox for the Trek Manual she won. I will NOT be 'defeeted' by techno-babble)

NEWSBREAKS FROM THE WORLDS

StarFleet

Things are clipping along and we do have some open positions on some of the different ships for anyone interested in joining us. Josh has stepped down and we are looking for a volunteer to fill the position of Starfleet World Administrator. Anyone interested please drop me a line and I will route it to the appropriate sources treedr@ywave.com

We are in the process of revamping the main web page and hopefully will have something up soon for that and possibly some of the ships. Any comments or questions please contact the Admiral of Personnel at wwstarfleet@hotmail.com

DragonLands

DL is pretty busy these days with lots of plot twists and turns and we have graduated several writers from Venture and have a new crew getting started. Waves to the gang and a big Weavers Welcome to all of you!

Some exciting news is that Arle has done an awesome job on revamping the DragonLands webpage and somebody out there noticed besides us of course, and it was given a Golden Wyrm Award. Way to go Lady! Check it out when you get a chance http://dragonlands.worldweavers.net/

On a sad note, Barbara Matthews has resigned as the Daere Admin and taken a leave from writing due to real life commitments. She has been the heart and soul of Daere since the beginning and will be missed. Good Luck to you Barb from all of us and we hope that you can come back and join us again soon.

Edward Murray who is one of our newer writers has graciously stepped up to the plate and is the new Administrator for Daere. (wow that means he's my new boss over there hehehe) He is very active in DL and has even crossed over to get his feet wet in Starfleet. Edward has also kindly offered to help with the awards this year. *evil grin* Ed's got a great helper though in his wife Carys who has also joined us in DL. Of course I will still be hanging around in the wings to help out but you will be seeing his name popping up to torment you this year, especially when it comes to getting around to *that time* ;D

Any comments or questions concerning DL please contact Arlene Jacobs at dlands@hotmail.com

In Nomine

Unfortunately the guys have been unable to find a new forum for the IN crowd so at the moment it is on hiatus. But we're not giving up hope just yet!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

As you all know we have been awhile without any Official Club Admins. There has been talk in the background on just how to deal with this. There have been a few suggestions and one was to put the word out asking for volunteers from the writers. Right now most of the positions are open and have been manned by admins filling in temporarily. Your input is encouraged and most welcome just drop me a line at treedr@ywave.com and I can channel it in the right direction.

The main position of course that is still most noticeably vacant is that of Club President. The others are Club Roster Keeper, Publicist, Archivist and then of course the Newsletter Editor.

To keep the club running smoothly we need people/volunteers to fill these positions. That way we can get our name and stories out to the public consistently and this attracts new writers and readers for us. If you wish to toss your name in the ring for one of these positions please send a message to me at treedr@ywave.com and I will make sure it gets to the appropriate places.

*Tree's THOUGHTS FOR THE MOMENT*

Now I don't know about all of you but I am a label reader from way back. It's amazing how extremely entertaining labels can be......so here's just a few that I thought I would share with you......

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how???....)

Some of the possible side effects from the anti depressant Zoloft "can cause......diarrhea and depression." (of course though it doesn't say which order you might get these?)

and my personal favorite......

On a Swedish chain saw: "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals." (....gee, was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

And onto my more serious thought......

In the memo field of all your checks, write "for sexual favors". It'll drive 'em crazy! ;-)

AWARDS INFO

Beat the rush! Nominations are already coming in so please feel free to send in your nominations now. It's really very simple, if you read a great post just send an email message with the category, author and date of the post and if you by chance have the WeaverFiction link that's wonderful too, but not mandatory. Also please add the unit name in the subject title of the message. Any post dated from midnight the start of May 2, 2003 to midnight the end of May 1, 2004 is considered eligible for this years awards.

The template for this years 2004 award categories have been uploaded for your convenience to the file section at WeaversFiction http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WeaversFiction/ For any questions or comments please contact the Awards Team at awards@worldweavers.net

As I stated earlier Edward Murray had kindly volunteered to work on the awards this year so without further ado......

Hello everyone, the last year’s awards are behind us and the next set is fast coming. I strongly feel you all are great writers and look forward to seeing your post. Yet this is an opportunity to let you acknowledge those fellow writers that make you cry, laugh and fear the dark.

We have old and new writers so if I tell you something you already know then just think of it as a refresher. I will continue to send you message updates each month and try to keep you abreast of what is happening. I will be following up shortly in a separate message with all information you will need.

I recommend you start sending in nominations now, because the time will creep up on you quickly and you’ll find you are out of time. awards@worldweavers.net

You can see last years winning writers and their stories at the following web page.
